Grape Seed extract (along with pine bark) are two of the main sources of OPC's (Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins). OPC's are a group of bioflavonoid complexes that perform as free radical scavengers when taken as a dietary supplement. Many names refer to this group of bioflavonoids, another is PCO's (Oligomeric Procyanidolic Complexes), anthocyanidin, leuco anthocyanin, leuco anthocyanin, and others. Research has shown that proanthocyandins (Opc's) possess anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, antiallergenic and amazing free radical scavenger attributes. In fact Grape Seed Extract has 20 to 50 times stronger "antioxidant" support to the body than Vitamin C & E, Beta Carotene or Selenium.
Lycopene is the pigment that gives tomatoes their red color. Lycopene is also one of the main carotenoids that is found in our bodies. Studies indicate that lycopene is a powerful antioxidant. Certain activities such as smoking reduces our blood levels of lycopene. Lycopene may also be in lower amounts in persons that are overweight, and blood levels may steadily decrease with aging. There is some indication that lycopene may help suppress the synthesis of cholesterol.
Lycopene and Grapeseed are two of the world's most popular antioxidant dietary supplements. Now contains a Red raspberry extract base.
